Its a subject close to my heart but yet again something difficult to talk about. Its close to two months since she left us. A very fast exit. The last time I met her was on the 9th Febuary 2009 at Yan's house. I came with my mum and sis just for a hello visit and to thank her for helping out with Aisyah's wedding. Wa, my aunt is famous for anything traditional . She was so excited that Iwanted her to make the bunga rampai for aisyah's wedding. She brought all her relevent utensils from Alor Star. Even brought the famous basket to put the bunga rampai in for the perasap ritual which I witnessed for the first time ever. She was quite upset she couldn't do it for her first grandchild's big day. They wanted it only to be scattered on the bed. So, it was a no no from her. Oh well, times have changed....
At Yan's house, we were exchanging notes on her traditional recipes. I was frantically typing away on my pda , jotting down her famous acar recipe, her le mo kiang, halwa maskat and so on and so on. All in all i managed to extract about 11 recipes from her that day. Dont know why i did that on that day.
The next time i heard about Wa was that she lost her eyesight. From then on it was a down hill struggle for her. What i witnessed later at abg pan's place was heartbreaking. She wasn't the person i knew. She was very quiet, staring straight into space. She talked very little on that day. It was like an early goodbye . I could sense it...
Wa, my aunt has always being the vocal and strong person , if compared to her sister, my mum. My mum , she can be strict when she wants to, but , if compared to Wa, she is fragile and gentle in voice and manners. My eldest sister takes alot after my mum.
Wa's house was the first place that we stopped at when i was a newly wed. She cooked up the best food ever. My husband enjoyed her pajeri nenas. Everytime we come home to astar, we will always stop at her place ,even if it was for a short while just to say hello. She would give her bedak batu that she did on her own, a painstaking chore .
The Wa that i will always remember, is the lady who has alot to say and talk about anything and everything under the sun. She is warm and gracious . She is generous and kind. She is confident and brave and above all , she is the best aunt ever.
Wa, may you rest in peace. May Allah shower you with all His blessings . You may be gone forever, but pleasant memories of you will always remain in my mind. Al -Fathihah..
