😐
A very interesting topic was discussed over the local radio this morning. Five people were interviewed whether they wanted to be taken care of by their children when they are old. All five didn't think they want them children to look after them.and the reasons they give was logical and make sense.
Times have changed. Those days when parents feel that their kids owe it to them - like pay back time is not the acceptable trend now. Well maybe those interviewed didn't represent the majority of us parents in Malaysia.
Personally, i beg to agree with those interviewees.
When the time comes for me to be totally dependable on others, then that is the time when i will check myself into any daycare home. Very clinical ya. Yes, I think so too. But let's face it. When the time comes to be dependable on others for your everyday things, how sincere are they in wanting to get things done as you wished them to be? I have seen in many cases of children being short tempered and impatient with their elderly dependants.
Old people are most sensitive in a lot of things. Sometimes to the point being stubborn in wanting to get things done their way. But believe me, lets looks at things from their point of view. They do want things done in a certain way because that is the only way they know how to get things done. From their perspective, it had worked before, why won't it this time around? its that feeling of security, safeness that is upmost in the minds of the elderly. Try teaching old dogs new treats- it doesn't work.
So, if any of my 4 children are reading this, remember this message of mine. Just tuck me in any good old folks home, I will be okay. No hard feelings ya. I will be okay.
